BLT Dip
This easy little BLT Dip is loaded with great bacon flavor that's beautifully complimented by sun dried tomatoes and green onion. It's perfect for dipping those good ol' potato chips!
I'm obsessed with little seasoning and dip mix packets.
You know the ones, right? All the different little dip, chili seasoning, and drink mix packets you find in gift shops and everywhere, especially around the holidays?
Yes, those. I love the things. And just can't help buying a few every time I see a big display. Every. Single. Time.
Please tell me I'm not the only one.
This easy little BLT Dip is loaded with great bacon flavor that's beautifully complimented by sun dried tomatoes and green onion.
Well this past Christmas as I was doing my Christmas shopping, I of course encountered a display or two in my gift-shopping travels. As usual for me, I just couldn't resist picking up a few to try out. One of my favorites from the selections? ... BLT Dip.
And you know what?
The list of ingredients on the packet was really quite simple. So I thought to myself, "Hey, I can totally recreate this on my own ... no need for the packet!" And that's exactly what I did.
In a side-by-side taste comparison with my extended family {who regularly play the role of taste testers}, this BLT Dip version beat out the original packet version, hands-down.
Now you'll see the recipe calls for imitation bacon bits. Those are the really crunchy kinda reddish ones ... and while you may be skeptical of them, they really do work best in this dip.
Using imitation bacon bits for this dip recipe is highly, highly recommended to produce the best flavor and texture results.
When creating the recipe, I tested making the dip with the imitation bacon bits vs. home-cooked crumbled bacon vs. prepared real bacon pieces that are sold in packages right alongside the imitation bacon bits.
Much to my surprise, imitation bacon bits worked best ... producing the best texture and best bacon flavor.
I fully expected real bacon to work better, but it became this weird chewy texture once it sat in the creamy dip ingredients ... and surprisingly, it's bacon flavor wasn't as pronounced. So using imitation bacon bits for this dip recipe is highly, highly recommended to produce the best flavor and texture results!
So we're going to have to let parsley stand in for the lettuce ... and still call it BLT ... okay? Because BPT Dip just doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
And as for all those little dip mix and seasoning packets that call out my name in the shops, BLT Dip is now one packet I can resist. Because from now on, I'll be making and enjoying this copycat version with my chips.
Thank you for stopping by . We'd love to have you back soon!
